Vacation in Borovets

There are many factors which make Borovets a long time preferred resort for all year round tourism and vacations. It is some 1350 meters above sea level and its first- class skiing and snow boarding facilities, and classy accommodations to match make it the ideal winter getaway. The hotels provide recreational amenities such as swimming pools, saunas, steam rooms, spa procedures, game rooms, bowling, billiards and tennis.

While in the area, regardless of the season, there are some places with historical and cultural significance worth visiting. The area is abundant in rich flora and fauna and the natural wonders of the Rila Mountains will not cease to amaze and exhilarate you. There are plenty of hiking tracks, although these are recommended mainly during the spring, summer and fall seasons.            

The Seven Rila Lakes are a spectacular sight- only some 20 km. from Borovets and the Rila Monastery is a magnificent sight definitely worth visiting. In fact, it is one of the most visited sights in Bulgaria. Located some 117 km. from Sofia, in the valley of the Rilska River, rising high at 1147 meters above sea level, the monastery was founded in 10 AD a noteworthy cultural and religious monument nestled amidst the lush natural setting of the mountain. It contains some beautiful frescoes, manuscripts, wall paintings and a collection of icons. The massive wooden cross at the monastery is ornamented with 140 microscopic Biblical scenes and illustrates stunning handwork.

Malyovitsa is a peak and a small ski resort in the northwestern part of the Rila Mountain. The region is well known as a major rock climbing and mountaineering. The first expeditions were in 1921 by tourists from the nearby town of Samokov.

The town of Samokov is a picturesque, modern day town nestled between Rila and Vitosha mountains and is a major tourist centre. It presents great possibilities for fine dining and entertainment and is only some 10 km. from the Borovets resort.
